President Joe Biden signed into law a bill that makes June 19, known as “Juneteenth,” a federal holiday. It’s an exciting announcement and an important step forward to officially recognize a date that has long held significance to American history. 

Juneteenth (combining the words “June” and “nineteenth”) commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom.
