Healthcare and Healthcare IT in Westerville
Healthcare is a significant segment of the Westerville economy, with hospitals, pediatric facilities and medical offices located in the city. Many are along an area of Cleveland Avenue that has been named the Medical Mile. Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, one of Westerville’s largest employers, is a community hospital with an emergency department that sees 72,000 patients per year, has 11 operating rooms, and dedicated angiography and catheterization labs.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the fourth largest pediatric hospital in the nation located in Columbus, offers comprehensive pediatric services in Westerville. The Nationwide Close to Home Center provides urgent care, as well as allergy, audiology, cardiology, endocrinology, nutrition, laboratory, neurology, neuromuscular, occupational therapy, pain care, physical therapy, pulmonology, radiology, sleep disorders and speech/language pathology services. Nationwide also provides behavioral health services in Westerville, in addition to a Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, a Surgery Center and a Child Development and Autism Center.
The OhioHealth Westerville Medical Campus provides emergency care, primary care, imaging, physical therapy, orthopedic care and outpatient surgery services. The Westerville Medical Campus also offers a comprehensive sports medicine program, along with state-of-the-art rehabilitation services. The Polaris Surgery Center, which is located on the Westerville Medical Campus, offers outpatient surgery with specialists in the areas of gynecology, hand, pain management, plastics, podiatry, orthopedics, spine and urology.
OrthoNeuro, with its primary location in Columbus, focuses on diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. The Westerville office specializes in orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, surgical and non-surgical spine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. OrthoNeuro’s Westerville location offers a full-service physical therapy department, as well as diagnostic services.
The Center for Surgical Dermatology and Dermatology Associates is the largest medical and surgical skin treatment facility in the Columbus Region. The facility, which is recognized as a center of excellence for skin cancer care, provides Mohs surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery and other necessary procedures in its outpatient facility and its Ambulatory Surgery Center.
OrthopedicOne, with seven locations in the Columbus metro area, has a facility in Westerville. The Institute, which has been ranked as the leading orthopedic practice in Columbus, offers comprehensive care for orthopedic injuries and conditions.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in nursing, Otterbein University offers a doctorate of nursing practice degree; post master’s certificates for family nurse practitioners, nurse anesthesia and advanced practice nurse educators; master’s degrees for family nurse practitioners, clinical nurse leaders, nurse anesthesia and nursing service administration; and an associate’s degree to master’s degree program in family nurse practitioner, clinical nurse leader and nursing service administration.
Westerville has several developments with commercial space that may be suitable for additional healthcare businesses, with limited property that might also be used for development of additional multi-tenant facilities. The city also has an advanced reliable, publicly owned fiber optic network, which is a valuable asset, particularly related to healthcare analytics and medical benefits management.
